Guardianship

A guardianship is a legal relationship between a legal guardian and another person (a ward). A guardianship gives the guardian legal authority and duty to care for the personal and property interests of the ward. A guardianship is often granted when the ward is in need of special protection. An example of when a guardianship may be appropriate is when the parents of a minor child are unable to care for the child and a relative wishes to step in and serve as a guardian for child.
