What happens next?

Is what I submitted confidential?
Yes. We treat inquiries as confidential, and we run a conflict check before your consultation to confirm we have not already spoken with the other party in your case. Submitting this form does not by itself create an attorney-client relationship, which begins only once we have both signed a written agreement.
What happens during the consultation?
We ask about your situation, your assets and income, your children if you have them, and what you want the outcome to look like. You will get an honest read on what California law allows in your circumstances and what the realistic range of outcomes is. If your case is better handled without litigation, or without us, we will say so.
What should I have ready?
Nothing is required. That said, the more you know about income, retirement accounts, real property, debts, and the date you separated, the more specific our answers can be. If you have been served with anything, bring it or note the date you received it.
My spouse already filed. Is it too late?
No, but the clock matters. A response to a petition is generally due within 30 days of service, and missing that window can result in a default judgment entered without your input. Tell us your service date when we speak.
We agree on everything. Do we still need attorneys?
An agreement still has to be written and filed in a form the court will accept, and California has specific disclosure requirements that trip up many self-prepared cases. Uncontested matters are often the most efficient work we do, and the goal is to make sure the judgment holds up years from now.
Will my case end up in court?
Most family law matters resolve without a trial. We prepare every case as though it will be contested, because that preparation is what produces a settlement worth accepting, and we go to a hearing when that serves you better than the alternative
